With heavy hearts, Bahrainis from all walks of life came together yesterday, united in grief, to bid farewell to their courageous soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice to safeguard the Kingdom.

First Lieutenant Hamad Khalifa al-Kubais was the fourth soldier to succumb after an attack this week on the Kingdom’s contingent in the Saudi-led coalition battling Yemen’s Houthis.

Leading the farewell ceremony from the forefront was Field Marshal Sheikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, the Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.

He received Al Kubaisi’s body at Isa Air Base in the presence of Lieutenant General Abdullah bin Hassan Al Nuaimi, the Minister of Defence Affairs, and Lieutenant General Dhiab bin Saqr Al Nuaimi, the Chief of Staff.

The martyr’s body arrived on board a Royal Bahraini Air Force military plane, and special military ceremonies were held to receive him, with several senior officers of the Bahrain Defence Force in attendance.

Family members and close relatives of Al Kubaisi accompanied the procession.

The Bahraini army had earlier announced that First Lieutenant Hamad Khalifa al-Kubaisi had on Friday “succumbed to serious injuries as a result of the treacherous Houthi attack.”

In a statement yesterday, the BDF Commander-in-Chief said, “These brave, heroic martyrs, through their noble sacrifices, have attained the highest ranks of honor. Their names will remain immortal and luminous in the glorious history of Bahrain.”
