A convict has been sentenced to five years in prison for stealing an inmate's ATM card and phone credit.
The incident occurred at the Centre for Correction and Rehabilitation, where both the suspect and victim were cellmates.
The suspect stole the card from his sleeping cellmate and went to the centre's store to buy cigarettes and phone credit worth BD45.
The stolen card was provided by the centre for inmates to transfer money to their families.
The suspect then discarded the card outside the building courtyard. However, another inmate found the card and returned it to the victim.
The victim reported the incident, and the defendant was found throwing away the card after exiting the store. He admitted to using the card but argued that the victim had stolen his personal belongings earlier.
