International Quran Award qualifying session underway
The qualifying rounds of the 13th Edition of Syed Junaid Alam International Quran Award, the largest contest of its kind ever organised in the Kingdom of Bahrain, have begun.
The event is being organised by the Holy Quran Custody Society under the patronage of HH Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Personal Representative of His Majesty the King. The competition activities are taking place at the Ahmed Al Fateh Islamic Centre with the participation of 56 Holy Quran memorisers and reciters from 56 countries around the world.
The qualifying rounds kicked off on Saturday and will continue until tomorrow. There will be morning and night sessions: the first session begins at 9 am and the second session starts after Maghreb Prayer, with the final ceremony to be held on Thursday at 7pm. Invitation is open to all.
Award Organising Committee Chairman Abdul- Ghani Al Omari said: “We are happy to organise this prominent Islamic event which is the result of our commitment at the Holy Quran Custody Society and keenness of Syed Junaid Alam Foundation on serving and taking care of the Holy Book of God Almighty and its memorisers and reciters.” This award hopes to reflect a good image of the Kingdom of Bahrain among the Islamic countries, he noted.
Al Omari pointed out that Syed Junaid Alam International Quran Award had won the best international competition in the Holy Quran, granted by the Muslim World League (International Commission for the Memorization of the Quran) in 2014, which had greatly encouraged and motivated us to work hard to maintain this status as the largest award in the world.
With regard to the importance of the award at the international level, Al Omari said: “The organisation of the award for memorization and recitation of the Holy Quran with the participation of 56 countries from different continents of the world makes it a first-class international award.”
The participants do not represent the Arab and Islamic countries only, but also represent countries from the far Orient and Maghreb.
He said the six members of the jury are senior memorisers and reciters of the Holy Quran in addition to being religious scholars renowned for their sound and deep knowledge.
Al Omari said the patronage of His Majesty’s Personal Representative, HH Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, of the activities of this award is a care we cherish, and it testifies the keenness of the wise leadership on supporting and encouraging the organisation of religious competitions. This, he said, stems from taking the Holy Quran as a guide and source of inspiration in Muslims’ lives and behaviour.
Al Omari praised the support of the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments for the award, and lauded the great efforts made by the various departments and departments of the Interior Ministry, which facilitated the organisation of this event.
He also invited the public to visit the site of the award activities and to attend the qualifications as well as the closing ceremony, due next Thursday at Ahmed Al Fateh Islamic Centre.
