The Bahrain High Criminal Court has sentenced a 50-year-old Arab man to five years in prison instead of the original 10 years for a case of forcing his friend’s wife into prostitution.

The incident began when the friend, also Arab, deceived his wife into thinking they would spend their honeymoon in Bahrain when he was actually planning to force her into prostitution with the help of his friend, who was already living in Bahrain.

The two men kept the woman locked in an apartment and abused her.

There, they beat her until she gave in under death threats.

They forced her to become a prostitute until she managed to escape and report the incident, leading to the husband’s arrest.

Initially, the court sentenced both the husband and his 50-year-old friend to 10 years in prison each and fined them BD2,000 each, along with deportation after serving their sentences.

The 50-year-old’s son, aged 20, was also involved in the case, receiving 10 years in prison too.

In a previous hearing, the defendant explained his involvement was merely accepting to host the victim in his home for one day along with his wife and daughters due to disputes with her husband, stating he was unaware of any plan to traffic her.
