The European Day of Languages was held last week at the Mövenpick hotel in Manama, highlighting the importance of learning a foreign language and to promote multilingualism in Bahrain.
Many Bahrainis attended the event to participate in group activities and learn about different languages, including French, German, Greek, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian.
Theo Lemaire, Political Officer at the European Union appointed to Bahrain, spoke at the event about the importance of language learning in a globalised world.
He emphasised that there has never been a better time to learn languages than now. “Sometimes we don’t think the language of Europe is translation.
In fact, one of the founding principles is multilingualism, and we want to communicate with our citizens in a language they speak and they understand, which means that basically everything that the European Union does is translated simultaneously in all 24 languages,” he said.
The event was also attended by the German, French, Italian, and Spanish ambassadors to Kuwait, as well as other dignitaries.
