The Kingdom of Bahrain is keen to apply the best standards to ensure the safety and quality of medicines and medical preparations.
This was emphasised by Dr. Mariam Athbi Al Jalahma, CEO of the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA), as she participated in the Arab Authorities Controlling Medicines meeting in Cairo at the invitation of the Arab League.
The meeting discussed the procedures used to register pharmaceutical preparations and monitor their safety, effectiveness, and quality after marketing and the importance of strengthening the capabilities of national regulatory authorities through global benchmarking by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
It also reviewed the most important codes issued by the Technical Committee and the impact of these codes on drug control in the Arab world.
The meeting agreed on developing a unified guide for pharmacovigilance, the principles and practices of clinical research, and a guide for emergency use of drugs.
