The Kingdom of Bahrain has put forward concrete projects and initiatives to promote democracy and human rights and plans to follow it up with ambitious future goals, MP Dr. Maryam Al-Dhaen told an Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) conference yesterday.

Addressing the 147th assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union held in Luanda, the capital of Angola, the MP said Bahrain’s initiatives are not only available for both genders but also focus on enhancing political and civil participation, promoting rights of women and minority, and fostering transparent and responsible governance.

Such initiatives reflect Bahrain’s commitment to promoting democratic values and human rights at all international, regional, and local levels, the MP said while highlighting the high participation from the Kingdom at IPU’s Committee on Democracy and Human Rights, which is one of the four permanent committees that meet at twice-early IPU assemblies.

Future goals

Further, the MP pointed out that the Kingdom of Bahrain is considered one of the countries that pays great attention to promoting human rights and demonstrating its commitment to international standards in this regard. The country is also keen to achieve ambitious future goals in strengthening democracy and human rights and to enhance political participation while ensuring women’s rights and gender equality in all fields, MP Al Dhaen added.

Through its strong participation in IPU sessions, the Kingdom aims to enhance international cooperation and exchange of expertise and knowledge with other member states so as to promote democracy and human rights as basic values to achieve development and stability, in line with its commitment to the values of justice and equality, MP Maryam said.
