Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) CEO Nibras Mohammed Talib has affirmed Bahrain’s commitment to supporting international efforts to address the crime of trafficking in persons.
Talib, also Chairman of the National Committee for Combating Trafficking in Persons, made the statement while meeting with Ilias Chatzis, Chief of the Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling Section (HTMSS) at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), on the sidelines of the CEO’s participation in the 13th meeting of the Working Group on Trafficking in Persons held in Austria.
The meeting discussed strengthening the strategic partnership and ongoing cooperation between Bahrain and UNODC in the field of combating human trafficking.
The LMRA chief outlined Bahrain’s pioneering efforts in combating this transborder crime, which has generated international recognition on various levels.
Chatzis said that the crime of trafficking in persons is one of the most grievous organised crimes that threaten the security and stability of societies, calling for concerted international and UN efforts to raise awareness of this cross-border crime and address it in a way that enhances social security at the national and international levels.
