A 22-year-old inmate tragically lost his life within a maximum-security prison in Bahrain following a fight involving another prisoner, officials said.
The inmate, whose identity has not been disclosed, was lodged in the Jaw Central Reform and Rehabilitation Centre.
According to jail officials, the brawl that led to the inmate’s death broke out on Friday afternoon.
The incident was captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras. Based on the surveillance footage, officials reported that the confrontation among the inmates occurred at approximately 12:39 p.m. on October 27, 2023.
In response, prison officials promptly intervened to regain control of the situation. Unfortunately, one of the inmates suffered severe injuries and was swiftly transferred for urgent medical attention, but, regrettably, he did not survive.
The administration affirmed that all required legal protocols were followed, including notifying the Public Prosecution and informing the Ombudsman and the National Institution for Human Rights.
The General Administration of Reform and Rehabilitation emphasised its unwavering commitment to upholding the law impartially.
Additional information remains limited at this time as an ongoing investigation seeks to uncover the circumstances surrounding the altercation and the resulting fatality.
