Woman granted divorce from abusive husband

The High Sharia Sunni Court has allowed divorce for a woman after her husband beat and insulted her in front of his family. The husband is said to have attacked the woman, both physically and verbally before kicking her out of their home in the presence of his family members.

The woman thus lodged a divorce lawsuit, affirming that the incident has all but made life with him impossible. According to court files, the pair was married since 2007 and has two children, aged four and seven. However, the husband was abusing and bad-mouthing and later physically assaulting her.

Recounting her ordeal, the woman told the court earlier, “He expelled me from the house on several occasions, but I used to go back without an apology from him. I wanted to save our family, but things were sailing in the wrong direction. He denied me from studying, working and even going out the house. And then he began avoiding sleeping with me, and later I discovered that he was having extramarital affairs.”

The husband made a counter lawsuit accusing the woman that she wasn’t obeying him. But witnesses confirmed that the woman was subject to ill treatment by her husband and he was attacking her and insulting her.
