The term “extraordinary” hardly seems an exaggeration when describing this remarkable roundabout located in Um Al Hassam.
For, unlike the typical traffic roundabouts, this one serves as an exclusive haven for Bahrain’s feathered inhabitants—pigeons.
Unsurprisingly, this avian haven, complete with bustling restaurants, has become a popular destination for bird lovers.
As the pigeons flutter and coo, the ground glistens with scattered seeds thoughtfully provided by local eateries.
Nearby residents eagerly join in by sprinkling grains, seeds, cereal crops, and plant seeds, despite official warnings.
The community here generously shares leftover bread and seeds, serving as delightful treats for the avian residents.
It thus stands as a shining example of Bahrain’s reverence for animals and its harmonious coexistence with nature.
A campaign was launched by the Muharraq Municipality to discourage feeding animals and birds in public spaces following complaints from members of the public.
The municipality has signs forbidding these kinds of activities, and noncompliance carries fines of BD300.
