Amid the ongoing crisis in Gaza, Egyptian citizens have found solace and expression through music.
Amanda Abd El-Meguid, a clinical pharmacist by profession, recently penned a heartfelt song titled “Dreams Turned to Dust,” aiming to shed light on the devastating realities faced by Palestinians in Gaza.
In an exclusive interview with The Daily Tribune, El-Meguid shared her motivation behind the song.
She expressed deep sorrow and anguish after witnessing the haunting images of innocent lives torn apart by relentless violence and war.
“The song dedicated to Palestinians in Gaza was born out of the depths of my soul, shattered by the haunting images of innocent lives torn apart by the relentless violence and war,” ElMeguid said.
“Witnessing their suffering and the immense injustice they faced moved me deeply.” El-Meguid’s song aims to evoke a profound sense of empathy and provoke a visceral response from listeners.
By confronting the brutal realities faced by the people of Gaza, she hopes to inspire action and unite humanity in the face of suffering.
“Through this song, I hope to evoke a deep sense of empathy and provoke a visceral response, forcing listeners to confront the brutal realities faced by the people of Gaza and the urgent need for humanity to unite in the face of suffering,” El-Meguid added.
“The feelings I aim to evoke include sadness, empathy, and a call for action to end the cycle of violence and protect the innocent lives caught in its grip.”
El-Meguid firmly believes that music has the power to captivate listeners in ways that other forms of communication may not.
She emphasises that the universal language of music can evoke strong emotions, create empathy, and foster a connection between the listener and the struggles faced by Palestinians in Gaza.
By raising awareness and sparking conversations, ElMeguid hopes to inspire action among those who may have been previously unaware or indifferent to the situation.
Acknowledging that there may be critics of her song and others who choose to express their support through music, El-Meguid remains resolute in her determination to stand in solidarity with Palestine.
She and others like her are prepared to face any criticism or hate, believing that their songs can be a powerful tool to amplify the voices of the oppressed and advocate for justice.
In a similar vein, reports have emerged of 25 exceptionally talented artists from the Middle East and North Africa coming together to create “Rajieen,” a powerful anthem transcending borders.
The song embodies resilience and resistance in response to the ongoing crisis in Gaza and the unyielding struggle of the Palestinian people.
As artistic expressions continue to emerge from Egypt and the wider region, it is clear that music has become a vital medium to shed light on the plight of Palestinians in Gaza.
