The National Civil Protection Platform (NCPP) was launched following the results of a nationwide survey and is aimed at providing comprehensive guidance on public safety issues and raising awareness, the Department of Security Information and Culture said on Sunday.

Talking about the initiative that was launched on Friday, Brigadier Mohammed bin Dinah, Director General of the General Department of Security Information and Culture, said the platform is of vital importance and that it is based on a carefully planned strategy.

Prepared under the guidance of the Minister of Interior, the platform’s focus is to increase awareness levels of public safety and is expected to yield significant benefits for the wider community, the top official said.

The National Civil Protection Platform deals with ensuring public safety in a diverse range of human environments and includes public safety procedures along with steps to ensure safety at homes, workplaces, educational institutions, swimming pools, etc., the official explained. In addition to this, the platform also deals with guidelines for the public on how to deal with adverse weather conditions such as heavy rain or strong winds, he added.

Information

Along with creating awareness on a variety of topics related to public safety, the platform provides information on how to respond to emergencies involving radioactive contamination, among other potential hazards, the official said.

One particularly notable feature of the platform is that it allows individual residents to apply to volunteer with the defence service. In just two days, over three hundred people have already expressed their interest in participating, the official revealed. Brigadier Mohammed Bin Dinah underscored the platform’s accessibility, affirming that it is available to all citizens and residents, providing them with crucial information related to their safety.

Along with providing daily updates, the team behind the platform is committed to fostering an interactive environment that promotes two-way communication with the public, according to the official. This approach allows for gauging the public’s response and developing information and awareness messages tailored for the public, he said.

National survey

Further, the official said the idea and implementation of the National Civil Protection Platform were based on the results of a comprehensive national survey conducted last year. With a sample size that exceeded 13,000 individuals from Bahraini society, the survey focused on gauging public awareness of emergency procedures and response strategies.

The findings of the survey highlighted the importance of safety guidelines and the need to equip individuals with knowledge to navigate emergency situations effectively, Brigadier Mohammed Bin Dinah said.

He also noted that numerous developed countries had already implemented similar awareness channels, even in the absence of specific security concerns, as a proactive measure to safeguard public security and safety. As the National Civil Protection Platform takes centre stage, it is poised to play a pivotal role in augmenting security awareness within Bahraini society.
