Bahrain is a model of tolerance, thanks to the comprehensive development process of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. This was affirmed by Arab Parliament President Adel Abdulrahman Al Asoomi on the International Day for Tolerance, as he hailed the government’s efforts led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

The Arab Parliament head stressed that tolerance is a human value rooted in the Bahraini identity which has highlighted Bahrain regionally and internationally as a destination for hosting dialogues, meetings and conferences related to tolerance, peace and coexistence, as it previously hosted the Bahrain Forum For Dialogue: East And West For Human Coexistence, and organised The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) Manama Dialogue.

Values

The Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (SCIA) hailed HM King Hamad’s keenness to the values of tolerance, ensuring religious freedom practices, and preserving freedom of opinion, thought, conscience and belief, considering it a necessary basis for achieving coexistence and tolerance, which resulted in a series of pioneering initiatives, wise visions and noble endeavors from His Majesty locally and internationally.

In a statement on the occasion, the Council hailed the government’s efforts led by HRH Prince Salman to achieve the royal visions in this field, through initiatives and endeavours that proceed in accordance with a rational legislative system and developmental, educational, cultural and media policies.

The Council affirmed that moderation, coexistence and tolerance is what our Islamic values urge, and are acquired in its teachings and in our Bahraini cultural heritage. “The world today became certain that these human values are the most important bases of social security, and the components of unity and development in human societies,” the statement reads.

The Council recalled, the Kingdom’s launching of Bahrain Dialogue Forum “East and West for Human Coexistence” last year, under the patronage of HM the King, with the participation of His Eminence Shaikh Al Azhar Al Sharif Grand Imam, Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, and His Holiness Pope of the Catholic Church. The Council called for efforts to promote these values among people, and make them a necessary part of school curricula and media programs, within the framework of principles, values and customs.
