A major agreement was signed to train technicians and qualify national competencies in the refrigeration and air conditioning field as part of the Kingdom of Bahrain commitment to protect the environment and the ozone layer.

The Supreme Council for the Environment (SCE), and the Ministry of Education, signed a cooperation agreement with the Bahrain Society of Engineers (BSE). HE Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Daina, Oil and Environment Minister and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, HE Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, Education Minister, and Dr. Raida Al Alawi, BSE President, were present.

Bin Daina affirmed that the agreement came within Bahrain’s commitment to protect the environment and the ozone layer in line with its international treaties such as the1985 Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and the 1987 Montreal Protocol on Substances That Deplete the Ozone Layer.

He noted that Bahrain’s progress in training workers in the refrigeration and air conditioning field has achieved the desired environmental goals since 2018, noting the important role of the Labour Fund, Tamkeen, in supporting Bahraini technicians training in these fields.

Partnerships

Dr. Jumaa affirmed the Education Ministry’s effort to keep up with the latest industrial sector developments through enhancing partnerships with civil and government institutions.

He added that the ministry will include refrigeration and air conditioning curricula for third-level students of technical and vocational education schools, which will qualify the students to obtain environmental licences and permits that will broaden their job opportunities after graduation.
