RCO receives GPIC donation

Manama

The Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) has extended a helping hand to the Royal Charity Organisation (RCO) to support its various activities and to alleviate Bahraini orphans and widows.

The RCO Secretary General Dr. Mustafa Al Sayed received a donation from the Company, presented by its President, Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery, during his recent visit to the complex.

It came as part of GPIC’s initiative to support associations and charitable institutions in Bahrain, under the aegis of Adviser to Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa for Oil and Industrial Affairs and GPIC Chairman Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa.

During the visit, Dr. Al Sayed gave a detailed explanation of the programmes and activities of the RCO.

He said the work came as part of its keen desire to integrate Bahraini orphans into the community and to involve them in various events within Bahrain as well as in other events held in Arab nations. This, he said, would enhance their social standing and help involve and integrate them into the community.

He also highlighted the leading role of the RCO Board of Trustees Chairman H.H Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, who, he said, had been implementing the directives of Bahrain’s wise leadership.

Dr. Al Sayed also thanked Shaikh Isa on his generous support and praised GPIC’s role in assisting various charitable and humanitarian institutions.

His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa established the Royal Charity Organisation on July 14, 2001 to care for Bahraini orphans. In November the same year, another Royal Decree was issued by His Majesty to assign the organization with providing care for the widows as well. In November 2007, yet another Royal Decree was issued to re-organize the Royal Charity Organisation, with His Majesty the King as the Honorary President of the organisation and Shaikh Nasser as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

The tasks assigned to the RCO are sponsoring widows and orphans and caring for the elderly and people with special needs; providing social, health and educational care, and contributing in mitigating the burden of the cost of living for needy families; contributing in setting up and developing social and charity projects; contributing in sustainable development activities and carrying out any other directives that are issued by His Majesty, the Honorary President of the Organisation, and/or carrying out duties that are ratified by the Board of Trustees.
