Bahraini sports enthusiasts are eagerly embracing the winter season as it brings with it the much-awaited badminton extravaganza. With badminton being a favourite sport among the locals, the courts are abuzz with excitement and intense competition.

Local badminton clubs and sports organizations have organized numerous tournaments and friendly matches to nurture the talent pool and promote healthy competition.

These events have attracted an impressive number of participants, ranging from enthusiastic beginners to seasoned professionals.

Hesham, a coach from the Bahrain Badminton and Squash Federation, spoke to The Daily Tribune about the federation’s initiatives and programmes aimed at promoting and developing badminton and squash.

He highlighted their efforts in organizing local tournaments, conducting coaching and training programmes, and establishing partnerships with the Ministry of Education to introduce these sports to young athletes.

In addition, Hesham mentioned the federation’s collaboration with international organizations such as the Badminton World Federation and Badminton Asia.

This collaboration involves participating in international tournaments, hosting events in Bahrain, and seeking technical support and guidance from these organizations.

Programmes and initiatives

When asked about the federation’s support for disabled individuals, Hesham confirmed that they have programmes and initiatives specifically designed to promote their participation in badminton.

Hesham explained that the federation offers specialized training and coaching programs tailored to accommodate the specific needs of disabled athletes.

These programs help them develop their skills and reach their full potential.

Furthermore, he mentioned that there are competitive opportunities and tournaments organized specifically for disabled athletes in badminton.

In collaboration with the Bahrain Paralympic Committee and other relevant organizations, the federation organizes inclusive local and international tournaments, providing disabled athletes with platforms to showcase their abilities and compete at various levels.
