Shura Council Chairman, His Excellency Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, has praised the keynote speech delivered by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa at the opening of the World Climate Action Summit, held as part of the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), hosted by Dubai, UAE.

Al Saleh lauded HM the King’s affirmation of the kingdom’s commitment to cooperation and partnership with other countries to achieve sustainable development and address climate change effects.

He hailed HM King Hamad’s announcement, in his address to the World Climate Action Summit, of the “National Action Plan, “Blueprint Bahrain”, to achieve carbon neutrality through three tracks: low-carbon economy, climate change adaptation, and creating sustainable opportunities in the new green economy.”

The Shura Chairman underlined the commitment of the kingdom, under HM the King’s leadership, to the provisions of international agreements and resolutions, including the Paris Agreement, citing the royal assertion of Bahrain’s keenness on “continuing efforts to reduce emissions by 30% by 2035, and to reach net zero in 2060, as it had announced at the ‘Glasgow Summit’”.

Al Saleh indicated that HM the King’s announcement of his “full support for the “COP28 Declaration on Climate, Relief, Recovery and Peace” represents a royal vision to achieve peace, security and stability, citing the King’s call for the “establishment of a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East region and the world, prioritising the urgent need for the Palestinian people to be guaranteed the most basic elements of a decent life while eliminating the reasons for conflict, ending the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip, and putting serious efforts into rebuilding Gaza in preparation for the establishment of their independent state, in accordance with the two-state solution”.

The Shura Council Chairman praised the government’s practical steps and initiatives to enhance environmental life, ensure progress towards achieving the set goals, and support the green economy, commending the keenness of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to implement development projects in accordance with the requirements of protection and preservation of the environment.
