MP Dr. Maryam Al-Dhaen expressed her appreciation for the recent decision to restructure eligibility criteria for women’s housing applications and termed it as a significant achievement in promoting women’s rights.

Praising the decision, she remarked, “I am very proud and happy that this decision will see the light within one year of my request for its implementation.” She highlighted that the proposal was initially presented on her first day at the parliamentary podium, and now it has become a reality through an official decision. This development is expected to contribute to providing suitable housing for a substantial segment of the population, particularly women classified as Category Five, the MP said.

The decision, delivered at a time when the Kingdom has proclaimed its National Day celebrations, is consistent with the comprehensive development process and a commitment to supporting women’s rights in line with the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, MP Maryam stated.

According to Al-Dhaen, the fifth category encompasses divorced, abandoned, or widowed women without children, as well as single women who are orphans. She emphasized the addition of divorced and widowed Bahraini women with non-Bahraini minor children to this category.

The decision, approved by the Cabinet, signifies the government’s commitment, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to achieving equality and ensuring women’s rights through restructuring eligibility standards for housing services, the MP noted.

She praised the efforts of Her Excellency Amna bint Ahmed Al-Rumaihi, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, for her youthful spirit and supportive vision, highlighting her understanding of the circumstances faced by women in the fifth category.

Additionally, MP Al-Dhaen commended the role of the Supreme Council for Women for recommending the expansion of eligibility criteria, foreseeing positive impacts on providing housing and ensuring living stability for female citizens. She emphasized the importance of continued cooperation between legislative and executive authorities to achieve more goals and aspirations for the benefit of Bahraini women.
