The Bahrain Parliament yesterday approved the extension of the age limit for imported cars to 10 years, allowing them to be registered as used vehicles instead of the previous five-year limit.

The proponents of this proposal cited the significant increase in the price of used cars as the driving factor behind their recommendation. They pointed out that the current law permits the importation of cars that are up to 5 years old.

However, extending this period to 10 years will help alleviate the financial burden on citizens due to the recent surge in car prices. By extending the allowable age limit, citizens will have the opportunity to access more affordable options in the used car market.

This decision aims to provide relief to individuals and families who rely on private transportation for their daily needs, especially in light of the challenging economic circumstances.

It is worth noting that this measure aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to support the welfare of its citizens and mitigate the impact of rising prices on various sectors, including the automotive industry. The decision reflects a balancing act between ensuring road safety, environmental considerations, and the affordability of vehicles for the general public.
