The Bahrain government has expressed its agreement with an urgent parliamentary proposal to double the fees for work permits for foreign workers in administrative, professional, and supervisory positions.
This move aims to prioritise Bahraini citizens as the preferred choice for employment in the private sector. The government has emphasised its commitment to making Bahraini nationals the preferred choice in the labour market by creating job opportunities in high-paying professions that can improve their standard of living.
It added that it has dedicated a special focus within its economic recovery and sustainable development agenda to address the issue of job opportunities for Bahrainis.
Tourists seeking working visas
In a related context, the government has stated that it is working on tightening the controls for issuing tourist visas and converting them into work visas. The government has clarified that the necessary conditions for granting visas of various types and their regulations have been defined by legislation and regulations.
“The conversion of entry visas from one type to another requires compliance with specific requirements. The issuance of work visas or the conversion of visit visas to work visas is only approved after obtaining the necessary permits under the provisions of Law No. (19) of 2006 regulating the labour market and the implementing decisions issued by it, according to the prescribed conditions,” the government explained.
