MP Dr. Maryam Al-Dhaen has lauded the Kingdom of Bahrain’s commitment to human rights, calling it a “pioneering model” on the global stage. She highlighted the country’s efforts in promoting and protecting democracy, freedom of expression, and equality for all citizens, as enshrined in the Constitution and National Action Charter.

Al-Dhaen’s remarks came during her participation in a lecture on the “National Human Rights Plan.” She commended the progress made under the plan, which encompasses both civil and political rights as well as initiatives promoting religious freedom, peaceful coexistence, and the right to opinion and expression.

She praised the work of ministries and agencies involved in human rights, emphasizing their contribution to establishing a state of law and social justice. Bahrain’s dedication to human rights extends beyond its national borders, according to Al-Dhaen.

The Kingdom has ratified the majority of international human rights agreements and treaties, and it remains committed to keeping pace with global developments in areas like combating human trafficking and navigating the evolving landscape of digital rights, technology, and artificial intelligence.

Al-Dhaen further pointed to Bahrain’s recent parliamentary and municipal elections as a testament to the country’s commitment to political participation. She described these elections as an “important milestone” in Bahrain’s journey towards a fully realized constitutional monarchy.

Respecting and protecting human rights is not just a legal obligation for Bahrain, but also an integral part of its cultural and humanitarian heritage, AlDhaen asserted. She emphasized the country’s efforts in areas such as worker protection, education, healthcare, housing, and the rights of vulnerable groups like people with disabilities, children, and the elderly. These initiatives, she concluded, align with Bahrain’s pursuit of sustainable development and global peace and security.
