As the clock strikes midnight on December 31, Bahrainis and visitors alike find themselves not just celebrating the passing year, but gazing into the horizon of 2024 with hopes and resolutions dancing in their eyes. The air crackles with a collective hum of ambition, a tapestry woven from personal triumphs and lessons learned.
Veth Njune, a solo female traveller wrapping up a week in Bahrain before rejoining her family in Kenya, speaks for many when she says, “2024 is about letting go of regrets and embracing time with loved ones.” Her solo adventures have fuelled her spirit, and she encourages others to conquer their fears and explore the world.
Parvathy Thanumoorthy, a consultant at international recruitment agency Taiba Overseas Consultants, echoes the sentiment of self-improvement. “I want to work harder, help students achieve their dreams, and prioritise my health,” she says, acknowledging the need for a balanced life that includes nurturing her role as a mother.
Fuad Mahzoomi, who owns Taiba Overseas Consultants, sets his sights on financial success and spreading kindness. “I want to become a millionaire and help anyone seeking to study abroad,” he declares, adding that 2023 taught him the value of continuous growth in his career. For Mohammed Suhair, a newcomer in Bahrain, the new year is all about spreading the love for his adopted home. “Bahrain is paradise,” he proclaims, urging everyone to consider calling it home. His motto? “Set your goals, focus, and achieve them!”
Fiona Walker Doyle, Deputy Head of Mission for the British Embassy, embodies the spirit of cultural exchange. Amidst settling into her new role six months ago, she’s determined to master Arabic and strengthen the bond between Brits and Bahrainis. “The past year has been a privilege,” Fiona beams, “and I can’t wait to discover more historical sites and traditions in 2024.”
News of, Bahrainis no longer requiring visas to visit the UK adds another layer of excitement to the new year. Doyle proudly says, “Bahrain is one of the first countries granted Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) access,” paving the way for easier travel between the two nations. ETA applications are scheduled to go live for Bahrainis from February 1, for travelling to the UK from February 22 onwards.
As the final moments of 2023 tick by, a sense of shared optimism takes flight in Bahrain. From solo journeys to family reunions, career aspirations to cultural immersion, the air vibrates with the promise of a year brimming with possibilities. This New Year’s Eve, amidst the fireworks and festivities, it’s not just the calendar that turns a page, but the hearts and minds of a kingdom ready to dream, strive, and celebrate the year to come.
