The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) announced yesterday that 139 individuals have been deported for violating the Kingdom’s residency laws.

The LMRA said that it conducted 1,467 inspection campaigns and visits during the week of 24 to 30 December last year, which resulted in the detention of 38 violating and irregular workers and 139 violators being deported.

The inspection campaigns and visits also resulted in the monitoring of a number of violations related to the provisions of a number of regulating laws, noting that legal measures were taken regarding these violations.

The authority explained that 1,436 of the inspection visits were carried out on various shops in all governorates, while the other 31 were joint-inspection campaigns that included 16 in the Capital Governorate, four in the Muharraq Governorate, seven in the Northern Governorate and four in the Southern Governorate.

The government entities that participated in the campaigns were the Ministry of Interior, represented by the Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs; the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Evidence; the Sentence Enforcement Directorate; and the governorates’ respective Police Directorate; as well as the Ministry of Labour, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and the Capital Municipality.

The LMRA affirmed the continuation of joint-coordination with government agencies to intensify inspection campaigns in all governorates, and to address any violations or practices that negatively affect the stability and competitiveness of the labour market or harm economic and social security of the Kingdom.

The LMRA renewed its call on all members of society to support the efforts of government agencies in addressing illegal labour practices, by reporting violations via the electronic form on the authority’s website lmra.gov.bh, or by calling the LMRA call centre on 17506055 or via the government’s Suggestions and Complaints System (Tawasul).
