The Kingdom of Bahrain marks the anniversary of the establishment of the National Guard every January 7, in recognition of the patriotic efforts exerted by its affiliates, alongside their brethren from the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) and the security personnel, to safeguard the kingdom’s security, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as protect its wide-ranging national gains and achievements.

HM the King, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, has always lauded the major role played by the National Guard in defending the nation, and expressed pride in its affiliates’ advanced levels and landmark achievements.

General His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the National Guard Commander, has attributed the advanced level reached by the National Guard to the sound directives of HM the King and the support of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

Since its establishment, the National Guard has succeeded in undertaking the patriotic tasks entrusted to it as per Decree-Law (20) of 2000, which stipulates that the “National Guard is a regular independent military armed force, which acts as a strategic military depth to the Bahrain Defence Force and a security shield to the Public Security Forces to defend the nation and protect its security, stability and territory,” according to the highest levels of military readiness and competence.

Over the past 27 years, the National Guard’s officers and servicemen have succeeded in undertaking their patriotic role to the fullest, making the National Guard a protective shield of the nation.

In 2023, the National Guard made tremendous efforts to enhance its readiness and competence, including its participation in the joint drill, “Neon Defender-23”.

Held under the patronage of the BDF Commander-in-Chief, Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, the drill was conducted by the Bahrain Defence Force’s various branches, the Interior Ministry’s Coast Guard, the National Guard and the United States Naval Forces Central Command (NAVCENT).

In March 2023, the National Guard took part in the “Fortress Bahrain” drill. The nation-wide military exercise was carried out by the BDF, along with the National Guard and the Interior Ministry.

Along with its essential role in safeguarding security and stability, the National Guard also plays a pioneering humanitarian and social role, as reflected in its contributions to various development initiatives that serve the community.

In this regard, the National Guard affiliates make annual donations to the Royal Humanitarian Foundation to support its humanitarian activities. It also contributes to the kingdom’s efforts to achieve food security, as reflected in its fish farming project in its Hidd Camp.

On January 2, the new Military Judiciary building was opened at the National Guard Camp in Sakhir, under the patronage of HH National Guard Commander.

On the occasion, His Highness stressed that the opening of the facility was the outcome of HM the King’s constant directives, affirming the importance of the military judiciary in the kingdom.

Over more than a quarter of a century, the National Guard has made strides and quantum leaps in enhancing its combat readiness and competence, strengthening its role as a major military and security force that contributes to defending the nation, safeguarding its stability and protecting its gains, under the leadership of HM the King, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
