Bahrain’s electronic passport claims global design awards

Bahrain’s electronic passport has won three gold and seven silver awards at the prestigious London Design Awards. The passport was unveiled in March 2023 by Interior Minister His Excellency Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa and competed against 3,000 participants from 45 countries worldwide.
The London Design Awards recognise exceptional designs and outstanding creative projects in various fields, including architecture, interior design, product design, graphic design, and digital design. Bahrain’s electronic passport showcases distinctive Arabian features, portraying an image of a galloping Arabian horse and a falcon.
It exhibits its own unique style, narrating stories from Bahrain’s history as a centre of pearl trade while highlighting the Kingdom’s recent achievements and its 2030 vision for the future.
His Excellency Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Nationality, Passports, and Residence Affairs (NPRA), praised the instructions of the minister, who also serves as the Chairman of the Ministerial Committee for Information Technology and Communication, and his unwavering support and attention to the issuance of the electronic passport with modern designs and stringent security standards in line with the ongoing plans for the digital transformation of all services provided by the Ministry of Interior sectors.
He commended the efforts of the electronic passport team in the Nationality, Passports, and Residence Affairs department, who worked with a unified spirit as a team and successfully executed this national project in a record time of fewer than nine months.

Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman expressed his sincere gratitude to HID, the company responsible for the design, and the passport issuance team, as well as all the collaborating sectors that worked diligently to ensure the success and prestigious reputation of the project. He emphasised that Bahrain’s electronic passport is one of the finest passports globally in terms of beauty and unique security features.
It provides significant facilitation for citizens travelling to various countries around the world. Bahrain’s electronic passport incorporates modern security features and utilises advanced technologies, some of which are being used for the first time in passport issuance worldwide.
