To combat the problem of cigarette littering on Bahrain's roads, the Northern Municipality has announced the enforcement of fines ranging up to BD300 for individuals found guilty of disposing of cigarettes on roads.

The measure is part of a wider campaign aimed at fostering a cleaner and more secure environment for residents. The decision to impose fines for cigarette littering has garnered significant support from the public, who has praised the initiative.

Many citizens took to the municipality’s official Instagram page to express their views, highlighting the potential hazards associated with the careless disposal of cigarettes.

They emphasised that such behaviour can lead to car fires and exacerbate the existing mosquito crisis. The Northern Municipality actively engages with the community by regularly posting reminders on various undesirable habits to be avoided.

Slogans

Some of the slogans featured encourage citizens to refrain from “throwing garbage from vehicles as it appears uncivilized."

“Use designated containers for construction waste." “Contribute to the good upbringing of your children by utilising public parks." “Avoid wasting water while washing houses and cars, preventing water runoff on the roads,” and “Refrain from leaving abandoned vehicles on roads and in yards.”

The Northern Municipality remains dedicated to creating a cleaner and safer environment for all residents and will continue to take measures to address other civic issues affecting the community.
