The Services Committee of the Shura Council, chaired by Dr. Jameela Mohammed Rida Al Salman, Deputy Chairperson of the Committee, discussed in its meeting held yesterday the proposal to amend certain provisions of the Public Health Law issued by Law No. (34) of 2018.

The proposal was submitted by the honourable members, Dr. Al Salman, Jamal Mohammed Fakhro, Dr. Jehad Abdullah Al Fadhel, Dalal Jassim Al Zayed, and Dr. Bassam Ismail Al Bin Mohammed. The proposed law aims to obligate the relevant administration in charge of public health affairs at the Ministry of Health to take steps that contribute to implementing the national plan to combat antimicrobial resistance.

It also responds to the calls of the World Health Organisation to address the global threat of antimicrobial resistance by developing national action plans that include strategies and public policies to combat antimicrobial resistance.

During the same meeting, the committee also discussed the proposal to amend paragraph (a) of Article (21) of the Private Sector Employment Law issued by Law No. (36) of 2012.

Six-month commitment

The proposal aims to address the problem of the non-continuity of domestic workers in the work for which they were brought, and to impose a six-month commitment on the recruitment agency to ensure their continuity.

The meeting was attended by Abdullah Ali Al Nuaimi who is one of the proposers. Furthermore, the committee elaborated on the proposal to amend certain provisions of Law No. (19) of 2006 on the labour market regulation.

This proposal aims to fill a legislative gap related to addressing the excessive fees charged by recruitment agencies for domestic workers and similar positions. The proposal was submitted by Abdullah Ali Al Nuaimi, Ali Abdullah Al Arady, Hisham Hashem Al Qasab, Dalal Jassim Al Zayed, and Sapeeka Khalifa Al Fadala.
