The Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee of the Bahrain Shura Council, steered by Dalal Jassim Al Zayed, has delved into the legal underpinnings of two critical proposed laws: one policing advertising on social media and the other safeguarding marine resources.

Taming the Wild West of Online Ads

Bridging a crucial legislative gap, the proposed law on social media advertising promises to bring order to the dynamic and often unregulated realm of online promotions. Recognizing the Kingdom’s burgeoning reliance on social media platforms for commercial engagement, the Shura Council seeks to establish a robust legal framework.

This framework will prioritize a safe and fair advertising environment, outlining clear principles to protect the rights of both consumers and businesses. By safeguarding individuals from potential harm and upholding societal interests, the proposed law aims to foster a responsible and trustworthy online advertising landscape.

Protecting Bahrain’s Oceans

Spearheaded by a group of dedicated Shura Council members, the proposed amendments to Decree Law No. 20 of 2002 prioritize the sustainable management of Bahrain’s rich marine bounty.

The legislation targets increased fishery production, aiming to achieve self-sufficiency and boost exports. This ambition will be fuelled by fostering a vibrant aquaculture sector, with the law proposing targeted support for fish farms and aquatic habitats. Furthermore, the initiative envisions equipping fishermen with expertise, technical guidance, and financial assistance through grants and loans.

The Shura Council’s meticulous examination of these two proposed laws signifies a proactive approach to tackling diverse challenges. By strengthening Bahrain’s natural resource management and establishing clear parameters for online advertising, these legislative initiatives hold the potential to significantly impact the Kingdom’s future economic and social well-being.
