Focus on government support programmes’ cost estimates

A joint committee held a meeting yesterday to discuss the total expected cost of each of the six government support programmes in light of the proposals presented to them. These programmes include support for people with disabilities, social insurance, cost of living allowance for retirees, cost of living allowance, rent allowance, and food support (meat and flour).

The joint committee for restructuring government support meeting was chaired by MP Abdulnabi Salman Ahmed, First Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives, and Dr. Jihad Abdullah Al Fadel, Second Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council. The meeting was attended by members of the legislative authority in the joint committee.

The committee examined detailed schedules of the six government subsidies based on the information and details provided by the government and the additional estimated costs according to the proposals presented for discussion in the context of improving the standard of living for citizens within the framework of government support restructuring discussions.

Full commitment

The committee emphasised its full commitment to reaching agreements with the government on comprehensive and integrated systems that ensure enhancing the living stability of Bahraini families, guaranteeing the optimal utilisation and sustainability of financial resources, and directing support to the most deserving categories.

The committee also highlighted the continuation of consultative and coordination meetings with representatives of the Council of Representatives and the Shura Council in the joint committee for government support restructuring, as well as with the government, to exchange information, inquiries, and perspectives regarding the committee’s competencies and tasks.

These are defined to ensure the access of support to eligible recipients in accordance with the best principles and mechanisms that guarantee the optimal use of resources and fulfill the aspirations of the nation and its citizens.
