American artist exhibits her work

An award-winning American artist has exhibited her artwork at the fourth annual art exhibition for Bahraini female artists, entitled ‘Boxes’ at the Isa Cultural Centre.

In partnership with the US Embassy in Bahrain, Nadine Gallery launched the art exhibition last Tuesday.

American artist Laurie Mason Goddard exhibited a number of her abstract paintings at the event.

She said she shipped over 18 paintings to Bahrain for the exhibition and for workshops that she conducted in Bahrain.

In an interview to DT News yesterday, she explained that she was inspired by Japanese art as well as Italian art.

“Japanese art is absolutely the most stripped down, essential art-form. I think it is very evolved. They are a much older culture artistically than the west. I personally love Japanese art. They are very minimal and very beautiful and evocative. It allows you to bring your own story to the

piece, “ she said, adding, “I lived in Italy for a number of years. The renaissance painters were fantastic, their use of colour is very beautiful, very bold”.

She said the artists deserved the support of the society because they were doing “something good for the world”.

“Support your artists, even pretend to be interested. If you have kids, encourage them in art, it is a great way to get them away from television. If you are an artist don’t let people dissuade from following your passion. Whatever art you want to do, it is a really good thing for the world, it’s a very important part of national culture,” she added.
