MP Dr. Maryam Al Dhaen lauded the Open Prisons Programme’s recent international accreditation, calling it a testament to Bahrain’s “pioneering achievements” in human rights.

“This prestigious certificate confirms our adoption of global best practices,” she declared, praising the programme as an “honourable model” for the justice system. Dhaen highlighted the programme’s success in integrating beneficiaries back into society, citing statistics showing positive lifestyle changes and reduced crime rates.

“Open prisons maintain family stability and rehabilitate individuals, reflecting the vision of His Majesty and His Royal Highness,” she emphasized. She commended the efforts of the Ministry of Interior and Minister Lieutenant General Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, crediting them with achieving a “balance between developing the justice system and promoting human rights.”

Beyond rehabilitation, Dhaen noted the programme’s focus on skill development, leadership training, and project creation. “These initiatives empower beneficiaries to re-enter the workforce with confidence,” she said, applauding partnerships with the public and private sectors to provide job opportunities.
