The second Arab Consumer Protection Day was held yesterday in Bahrain at the Crown Plaza Hotel under the theme “Arab Women and Consumer Protection.”
The event, attended by distinguished guests including Industry and Commerce Minister H.E. Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro and Bahjat Abu Al-Nasr, the director of the Economic Integration Department of the Arab League, aimed to address the pressing issues faced by consumers in the Arab world, with a particular focus on Arab women.
The initiative, launched in response to recommendations from the 13th meeting of experts on consumer protection within the Arab League’s Greater Arab Free Trade Area, seeks to tackle a significant consumer-related topic each year.
This year’s theme underscores the importance of protecting the rights of Arab women in consumer practices, and Bahrain has demonstrated its strong support for this cause.
The event brought together a diverse audience, including Bahraini women from civil societies, university students, and a group of experts, legalists, academics, and technicians specialising in consumer protection from GCC and Arab regions.
The Minister highlighted that the celebration featured an inaugural dialogue that aimed to explore the challenges faced by Arab women in consumer practices and identify potential solutions.
Throughout the event, successful experiences and practices from consumer protection agencies in the Gulf and Arab region were showcased, providing valuable insights and inspiration for future endeavours.
Bahrain reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Arab League’s General Secretariat and the Greater Arab Free Trade Agreement’s Group of Experts and Specialists in their ongoing efforts to enhance consumer protection.
