HRH Prince Salman celebrates equestrian heritage at King’s Cup awards

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, yesterday presided over the awards ceremony honouring the winners of His Majesty the King’s Cup.

The race, organised by the Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club (REHC), was held at the renowned Riffa racecourse in Sakhir.

Representing His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, HRH Prince Salman graced the ceremony, underscoring the importance of horse racing as a cherished aspect of Bahrain's cultural heritage.

In his remarks, HRH Prince Salman praised the national endeavours dedicated to preserving this time-honoured tradition, which serves as a cornerstone of the Kingdom's historic identity.

Acknowledging the fierce competition witnessed during the race, Prince Salman hailed it as a testament to the exceptional standards attained by Bahrain's equestrian sector.

HRH extended his appreciation to the REHC and its esteemed High Committee, led by His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Isa bin Salman Education Charitable Trust and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Labour Fund (Tamkeen), for their pivotal role in positioning Bahrain as a global hub for international horseracing events.

Awards

Later, HRH Prince Salman presented the His Majesty the King’s Cup for imported horses to His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

The award for local bred horses was handed over to Abdulla Sami Nass and that for WAHO domestic grade 1 to trainer Abdulla Kuwaiti.

The Al Methaq Mile Cup was awarded to HH Shaikh Hamad bin Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa and HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, along with their winning trainer Saeed bin Suroor.

His Highness Shaikh Nasser also claimed the Bapco Energies Horseracing Cup for the third race.

Mark Thomas, CEO of Bapco Energies Group, presented the awards.

Award for eighth race went to HH Shaikh Sultan Al Din bin Mohammed bin Salman Al Khalifa.

The event further saw the Avenues Cup handed out by Firas Barakat, Manager of the Avenues Mall to Khalid Abdulrahim, and the Al Binaa Cup awarded by Yousif Bucheeri, representing Al Binaa Group to trainer Allan Smith.
