Renowned Iraqi artist Sinan Hussein has unveiled his latest exhibition, “City Center,” at the Folk Art Space in Al Sehla, in a display filled with comic strangeness and the merging of beings with urban elements.

Opening its doors on February 20 and running until March 30, the exhibition promises a captivating exploration of the essence of the city, teeming with human presence, wildlife, and inanimate objects.

This marks Hussein’s second exhibition in the Kingdom of Bahrain, following his debut showcase, “Glow,” at the Al-Riwaq Arts Space eight years ago. Unlike conventional representations of urban chaos, Hussein’s works delve deeper, examining the intertwining of humans, animals, and various objects to create unique creatures characterised by their eccentricity.

Creatures in Hussein’s art transform into hybrid forms, blurring the lines between humans and animals, or even evolving into unidentifiable monsters, reflecting the city’s density, noise, and the intersection of the reasonable with the unreasonable.

Amidst this chaos, individuals lose their centrality, consumed by the bustling energy of the urban environment. In the heart of the city, people are depicted as constantly bustling with activity, burdened by worries and possessions. Hussein emphasises the symbiotic relationship between humans and their surroundings, where individuals find solace amidst the clamor of urban life rather than in solitude.

Hussein’s artwork challenges the notion of isolation, highlighting how the city’s vibrant energy has reshaped human existence. “City Center” offers viewers a thought-provoking exploration of urban dynamics, where the fusion of beings and objects creates a surreal yet captivating representation of modern life.
