HM King Hamad issues decree on EWA activities

His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa issued Decree (20) of 2024, adding Article (II) bis to Decree (98) of 2007, regarding the establishment of the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA), based on a proposal of the Prime Minister, and following the approval of the Cabinet.
Under Article I, Article (II) bis is added to Decree (98) of 2007 establishing the Electricity and Water Authority, as follows: “Under the Commercial Companies Law issued by the Decree Law (21) of 2001, the Electricity and Water Authority can establish companies that are owned or partially owned by the government and contribute to and own stakes or shares in existing companies to conduct certain activities related to water and electricity.
A Cabinet edict naming the minister or government representative shall be issued to outline the procedures for establishing or owning these companies.”
Under Article II, The Prime Minister and ministers, each in their capacity, shall implement the provisions of this decree, which takes effect upon its publication in the Official Gazette.
