Akbar Ashour Salih passed away yesterday due to burns sustained in a house fire in the Sitra area on Friday, reported our sister newspaper, Al Ayam.
The deceased had suffered from smoke inhalation and delayed burns after remaining trapped inside the burning home for approximately eight minutes due to the difficulty in rescuing him.
He remained under intensive care at Salmaniya Medical Complex.
Sources told Al Ayam that the victim’s wife also remains in critical condition in the ICU, receiving treatment for similar smoke inhalation injuries and burns.
Their son continues to receive monitoring while coping with spinal fractures as well.
MP Jaleela Al Sayed confirmed to Al Ayam that she spoke with the Health Minister, who noted that the wife cannot currently be removed from intensive care as she requires machines.
The fatal fire broke out Friday afternoon at a Sitra home housing four families totalling around 15 individuals, completely damaging the structure.
This latest loss of life underscores the dangers of fires in overcrowded housing and the need for urgent action to address such risks to safety.
The thoughts of the community grieve with the bereaved families.
