Bahrain is committed to implementing initiatives that reduce carbon emissions and adapt to climate change while encouraging a green economy and providing more opportunities to achieve sustainability in the energy sector. The Kingdom has also implemented several energy efficiency policies, the most prominent of which is developing a strategy to promote electric vehicles.
This was emphasised by His Excellency Yasser bin Ibrahim Humaidan, Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, as he participated in the ministerial roundtable titled “Infrastructure for the Energy Transition”, during the 14th Session of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly on April 16–18 in the UAE.
The minister commended the UAE’s efforts in hosting and organising these international events to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially in the energy sector. Humaidan said that Bahrain is studying the feasibility of implementing innovative technologies and creating favourable conditions for expanding renewable energy and improving energy efficiency by providing the necessary infrastructure, redirecting institutional capabilities, increasing renewable energy investment, and unifying international efforts to enhance sustainability.
Progress
He highlighted the kingdom’s progress in achieving the national goals for renewable energy and energy efficiency, as well as carbon neutrality by 2060. He underscored the importance of strengthening partnerships with the private sector to support renewable energy and energy efficiency projects.
