The High Appeals Court is poised to deliver its verdict on June 25, 2024 in the case of a Bahraini man sentenced to five years in prison for setting two cars on fire.

The man, who was under the influence of a mind-altering substance at the time of the incident, is appealing the initial conviction.

The incident occurred when a security guard at a company noticed the smell of smoke coming from the security camera control room.

Through the camera feed, he witnessed a man on a bicycle approaching a parked car near the company.

The man opened the fuel tank, set the fuel on fire, and fled the scene. The guard rushed to the scene and found two cars engulfed in flames near the fuel tank.

He managed to extinguish the fire using a bucket of water. Police officers arrived at the scene and reviewed the company’s security cameras.

The footage showed the suspect riding a bicycle with black and red colors.

Based on this information, the officers conducted investigations and identified the suspect through confidential sources.

The following day, the security team received information about the suspect’s whereabouts in Isa Town.

Upon arriving near Khalifa Sports City, they spotted the suspect riding the same bicycle used in the crime. Despite his attempt to escape, the suspect was apprehended.

Confession

During questioning by the Public Prosecution, the suspect confessed to committing the crime.

The security camera footage confirmed that the suspect was the same person seen in the video, and the bicycle seized from him matched the one used in the arson.

The High Criminal Court found the suspect guilty of arson and sentenced him to five years in prison.

The suspect has appealed the verdict, and the Appeals Court will deliver its verdict on June 25, 2024.
