Court of Appeal overturns acquittal rulings and imposes fines for tax evasion

The Chief Appeals Prosecutor of the Public Prosecution announced that the Third Great Court of Appeal had upheld the Public Prosecution’s appeal in three cases involving four defendants and their companies.

The court overturned the acquittal rulings issued by the lower court and reinstated convictions for tax evasion based on the evidence presented.

In the first case, the court fined the accused an amount equivalent to the unpaid taxes, totaling BD901,077.750.

The accused was ordered to settle the outstanding taxes owed. Furthermore, the company associated with the accused received a fine of BD1,802,155.500.

In the second case, both defendants were fined the sum of BD185,597,500 each, reflecting their outstanding tax liabilities.

They were also mandated to clear the dues owed. One defendant’s company was fined BD371,195,000.

In the third case, the accused was fined BD6,194,500, corresponding to the tax owed, and was directed to fulfill the outstanding tax obligation.
