Bahrain experiences thunderstorms, heavy rain hits northern and central regions

Bahrain experienced intermittent thunderstorms across most areas since dawn yesterday, with heavy rain observed in the northern and central regions.

According to the Meteorological Department of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, thunderstorms were first detected in the eastern region of the neighbouring Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, impacting Bahrain’s northern territories.

Meteorologists anticipate continued rainfall throughout the day today, accompanied by robust northeasterly gusts reaching up to 40 knots, later shifting southeasterly by evening.

Most regions experienced thunderstorms and swift gusts, prompting cautionary advisories from the Ministry of Transportation’s meteorological division regarding strong downward winds, with speeds peaking at 40 knots during gusts.

Emergency teams Rain emergency teams actively engaged in pumping out accumulated rainwater since the onset of precipitation, operating round the clock across various regions and governorates.

These teams were mobilised ahead of the rainfall, swiftly springing into action to address water accumulation and ensure community safety.

Teams have been strategically stationed across the four governorates to address water drainage from main streets, internal roads, residential areas, as well as key public institutions like hospitals, schools, and service centers.

Residents are encouraged to report rainwater accumulation on main streets via hotline 17545544, and on internal streets through hotline 80008188, emphasising community engagement in maintaining safety amidst inclement weather conditions.
