The Minister of Education, His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma has confirmed that the Ministry of Education is considering a phased introduction of an English curriculum within the scientific and mathematical subjects.

The Ministry has emphasised the essential role of English fluency in the acquisition of knowledge, particularly within the technological sphere.

In response to the queries presented by MP Mariam Al-Saegh, who is advocating for the prospective incorporation of English into the public school curriculum of Bahrain, as well as enhanced pedagogy and instructor development to bridge this educational chasm, the Minister has stated that: The ministry has charted a course towards linguistic excellence.

With daily sessions designed to sharpen the young minds of Bahrain and preparatory courses for the TOEFL and IELTS, the Ministry’s plan is not merely to teach English but to imbue students with the language’s power.

Yet, in this pursuit of linguistic prowess, the Ministry has not lost sight of the mother tongue’s sanctity, Arabic, within Bahrain’s cultural heart. It echoes the sentiments of linguistic scholars and the findings of applied linguistic research, which trumpet the significance of the native language in the educational odyssey, especially during the formative years.
