The Head of the Northern Governorate Prosecution announced in a statement that the Public Prosecution initiated investigations on a fire that broke out in a building in the Al Luzi area of Hamad Town on Saturday.

The incident resulted in four deaths, including a man, a child, and two women, and caused significant material damage, while 20 residents were rescued by the Civil Defence personnel.

The Public Prosecution revealed that the reason of their victims’ death was identified as suffocation, while the cause of the incident is yet to be determined as foul play is being investigated in order to be ruled out.

Thorough examination

“Upon receiving the report on the incident from the competent authorities, the Public Prosecution immediately took action by dispatching a team to the scene of the incident.

They conducted a thorough examination of the site, interviewed relevant experts and witnesses, and initiated necessary measures,” the statement said.

“The forensic doctor affiliated with the Public Prosecution was also summoned to conduct the necessary forensic examination on the deceased individuals. The examination concluded that the cause of death was due to suffocation.

As a result, the Public Prosecution authorised the burial of the deceased following the completion of the examination,” the statement added.

“Additionally, the Criminal Investigation Department and the Forensic Evidence Division, along with Civil Defense officials, were summoned to prepare the required reports on the incident.

Their objective is to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the direct cause of the fire, in order to facilitate further legal proceedings,” it explained.

Impact

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education announced that it is currently monitoring any cases of student impact resulting from the unfortunate accident.

The ministry indicated that schools accommodating students from the affected residential area are currently identifying and assessing the affected male and female students.

This is to accommodate them during the final examination schedule and provide them with new textbooks if needed, while ensuring comprehensive educational, academic, and psychological support.
