In a shocking incident, a young man managed to steal a parked car from a residence and set it ablaze using a cigarette lighter before fleeing from the scene.
According to the details of the case, the car’s owner had left it near his brother’s house due to a mechanical issue, and since it was unregistered, he later discovered that it had been stolen.
He promptly reported the incident to the police.
The victim was informed by the police that his stolen car had been found in a different location but had been engulfed in flames.
Upon examining the vehicle, he confirmed that it was indeed his car.
Further investigations revealed that the fire had been deliberately ignited by placing an external heat source on the top of the engine cover and the front left side of the car’s roof.
As a result, the front of the car, including the engine, was severely damaged, along with other parts of the vehicle.
Additionally, the forensic laboratory division’s report confirmed that the cigarette lighter found inside the passenger compartment, between the seat and the driver’s door, had human DNA traces belonging to the accused.
It was determined that the accused intentionally set fire to the car. During the public prosecution’s investigation, the suspect admitted to having the victim’s car in his possession on the day of the incident.
As a result, the suspect was charged with arson and theft, for which he was handed down five years in prison.
He appealed the court of first instance’s sentence.
