The Survey and Land Registration Bureau (SLRB) has taken a significant stride towards modernising Bahrain’s national 3D mapping infrastructure by attracting four companies to offer their expertise in “Modernising National 3D Mapping for the Kingdom of Bahrain Phase B.”

This move aims to update and enhance the country’s geospatial data capabilities, providing accurate and current information for various developmental projects.

The tender board has accepted all bids, indicating a positive response from interested parties.

The project is estimated to cost the exchequer between BHD 212,880.800 and BHD 499,950.000 if one of the bids is approved.

SLRB followed a two-envelope process for the project, ensuring a thorough evaluation of technical capabilities before financial considerations are made.

Companies must submit their technical response in one envelope and their financial proposal in another.

Notably, the technical response must exclude pricing information and will be evaluated first.

Only bids meeting the required technical standards will proceed to the financial evaluation stage.

This project aligns with Bahrain’s broader strategy of integrating advanced technologies into its national infrastructure, reflecting the Kingdom’s commitment to innovation and modernisation.

The successful implementation of this project will enhance the accuracy and reliability of Bahrain’s geospatial data, providing a solid foundation for development and growth across various sectors.

It’s important to note that 3D mapping a country offers a comprehensive spatial dataset supporting numerous applications, leading to improved efficiency, sustainability, and informed decision-making.

This technology not only enhances the understanding and management of physical spaces but also stimulates innovation and economic growth.

Reportedly, Ordnance Survey (OS) has created the first 3D-enabled national spatial data model for Bahrain with the Survey and Land Registration Bureau (SLRB) mapping authority.

The model was built to Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) industry standards.
