Bahrain marks International Day of Women in maritime sector

Bahrain joined the global community in celebrating the International Maritime Organization’s designation yesterday as International Women’s Day in the Maritime Sector.

The Kingdom marked the occasion under the slogan “Safe Horizons: Women Shape the Future of Maritime Safety.”

The Ports and Maritime Affairs at the Ministry of Transport and Communications highlighted efforts to enhance the role of women in the maritime sector, reaffirming Bahrain’s commitment to UN Sustainable Development Goals regarding gender equality.

His Excellency Mohammed bin Thamer Al Kaabi, Minister of Transport and Communications, underscored the vital role of women in the maritime sector, hailing Bahraini women who have demonstrated exceptional efficiency and professionalism in their tasks.

Al-Kaabi emphasised the Ministry’s efforts to promote women’s participation in maritime work through training, overcoming obstacles, and fostering a safe work environment.

Bahraini women have achieved significant advancements in leadership roles and contributed effectively to various maritime operations and projects.

Celebrating women in the maritime sector recognises their outstanding contributions, essential partnership, and indispensable role in fostering prosperous economies and ensuring safe maritime transport.

This celebration underscored the Ministry’s commitment to supporting women’s advancement in all fields, including the maritime sector, in pursuit of sustainable development.
