The Kingdom of Bahrain has stressed the urgent need for parties to the conflict to comply with international law, including international humanitarian law and international human rights law. This compliance is crucial to protect civilians in armed conflicts worldwide.
This came during the Kingdom of Bahrain’s speech delivered by the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York, H.E. Ambassador Jamal Fares Al-Ruwaie, in the Security Council’s open discussion session on civilians and armed conflict.
The event coincides with the 25th anniversary of the adoption of Security Council Resolution 1265 (1999) and the 75th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions for the year 1949.
The Permanent Representative highlighted the significant success of the 33rd Arab Summit, hosted by the Kingdom on May 16 this year.
He noted the initiatives proposed by the Kingdom and adopted by the summit, as outlined in the Bahrain Declaration.
These initiatives include calling for an international peace conference in the Middle East to resolve the Palestinian issue, supporting the State of Palestine’s UN membership, and providing health and educational services.
