Housing Ministry launches urban sustainability initiative in East Sitra

The Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, Her Excellency Amna bint Ahmed Al Romaihi, reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to developing green and sustainable residential cities.

This supports Bahrain’s plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060 and aligns with the United Nations’ 11th Sustainable Development Goal of creating ‘inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities’ by 2030.

Al Romaihi made these remarks at the launch of a city planting initiative for the East Sitra City Housing Project.

The Minister praised the efforts of National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD) Secretary-General Her Excellency Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa and others involved in the city tree planting initiatives, which are crucial for increasing green spaces through public-private partnerships..

The East Sitra initiative is the second such project, following on from a successful effort in East Hidd city.

Continuing its dedication to green living, the Ministry has launched an initiative to provide each housing unit beneficiary in East Sitra with an agricultural seedling, encouraging residents to partake in greening the city.

Gratitude Shaikha Maram expressed her gratitude for the Ministry of Housing’s efforts to increase green spaces in housing projects, noting that these initiatives help reduce air temperatures and provide psychological benefits to residents, achieving a healthier living environment.

Engineer Yasser Abdul Rahim Al-Abbasi, CEO of GPIC, praised the planting plan and acknowledged the efforts of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka Al Khalifa in proposing and following up on environmental initiatives. He also highlighted the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, and other parties in increasing greenery across the Kingdom, contributing to carbon neutrality and air quality goals.
