A Bahraini woman has been granted a divorce after her husband accused her of using eye lenses to spy on him, causing years of “severe psychological harm.”

The Jaafari Sharia Court issued the ruling based on evidence presented by the woman’s lawyer, Manal Taher Hamoud.

The woman’s husband, who suffers from severe obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and delusions, alleged that his wife had planted lenses in her eyes and head for surveillance purposes.

His deteriorating mental condition led him to abandon the marital home for over a year and refuse to provide spousal support.

The woman’s lawyer explained that the court initiated a comprehensive investigation to validate the woman’s claims of psychological and physical harm.

The investigation involved witness testimonies and medical reports, which confirmed the husband’s diagnosis of chronic psychosis and his refusal to undergo treatment.

‘False beliefs’

In its verdict, the court recognized the medical evidence and witness statements, noting that the husband’s mental illness and “false beliefs” posed a significant risk to others.

The court emphasised the woman’s right to safety and security, highlighting the “severe psychological harm” she had endured over the years.

Based on the compelling evidence, the court concluded that the woman had suffered greatly due to her husband’s untreated mental condition and granted her the divorce she sought.
