As part of the state visit by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to China, Gulf Air, the Kingdom of Bahrain’s national carrier, has launched direct flights to the Chinese cities of Guangzhou and Shanghai.

This significant development coincides with the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, further enhancing historical ties and promoting continued growth in bilateral relations.

Her Excellency Fatima Al Sairafi, Minister of Tourism, articulated the strategic significance of the Chinese market within Bahrain’s tourism agenda for 2022-2026.

Taking on board the potential within China’s vast populace, the Ministry of Tourism and the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) has engaged with the private sector to craft customised tourism packages for Chinese visitors, attuned to their preferences and expectations.

Initiatives In a bid to enhance their appeal to Chinese tourists, the Authority has embarked upon several initiatives, which include: carrying out comprehensive studies on the cultural and recreational predilections of Chinese tourists; establishing partnerships with tourism offices in China to elevate Bahrain’s profile in this burgeoning market; and organising a workshop that convened over 100 Chinese travel agencies, destination managers, and hoteliers.

These undertakings are designed to bring in an increased number of visitors from China, thereby deepening Bahrain’s diplomatic and economic ties with the nation.

The introduction of direct flights and bespoke tourism offerings is poised to significantly invigorate the tourism sectors of both Bahrain and China.
